Xiaomi Black & White E-Scooters

Electric scooters are coming to the UK and the Xiaomi M365 is leading the way.

We look at the M365, compare it to other scooters, and look at the electric scooter landscape in the country.

SO WHAT MAKES THE Xiaomi SCOOTER SO DARN GOOD?

Made by Chinese tech giant Xiaomi (pronounced "show-er-me"), the M365 has won numerous awards across the world based on its simple folding design, 30 km range, 25 km/h top-speed, low weight and pneumatic tyres. It also boasts cruise control, E-ABS braking, lights and a dedicated phone app. Top review site Techadvisor.co.uk says, "it's fast, smooth, almost entirely silent, with a battery that just keeps on going..."

WHAT is the best alternative?

Founded in America in 1999, Segway (now owned by Ninebot) is a better-known brand, and its ES2 scooter is similar to the M365 in many ways. The ES2 also has a simple folding design, a 25 km/h top-speed, low weight and a dedicated app, but has shock absorbers instead of pneumatic tyres and a 25 km range (which can be boosted by a second battery). It also boasts a customisable atmospheric light, an LED spedometer and both an electric and mechanical hand-brake. The most obvious physical differences are that the ES2's battery is stored in the handlebar stem and there are no external wires.
